This research is aimed to determine land characteristics and evaluate land suitability for watermelon crop in Ambal District, Kebumen Regency, already implemented from in December 2016 up to April 2017. This research was conducted using observation method through the collection of primary and secondary datas. Primary data was obtained directly from the study site and through laboratory analysis, while secondary data was obtained through literature study and some informations from government institution. The result showed that coastal land of Ambal had sandy texture, soil drainage was very fast, the depth of soil was shallow, cation exchangeable capacity was low to very low, the base saturation was moderate, pH was neutral to slightly acidic, C-Organik was very low, N total was very low, P2O5 high to very high, K2O was high to very high, salinity was very low. Based on soil characteristics and supporting data, actual land suitability class of watermelon crop are S3oa, rc-1 and rc-3 with some limiting factors such as drainage, texture and soil depth. The suitability of potential land of watermelon plants are S3 meaning that Ambal beach sand was included in the marginally suitable land.en_US
