| dc.description.abstract | Indonesia is one country that put massive concern toward environmental issues, one of them is maritime issue. To develop better response on maritime case, Indonesia has ratified Marpol 73/78 in order to maintain the Indonesia’s Sea Area from environmental hazards posed by the movement of the vessels. Marpol Convention is the main international convention covering prevention of pollution of the marine environment by ships from operational or accidental causes. It is a combination of two treaties adopted in 1973 and 1978 respectively and updated by amendments through the years.
This research will explain about the effectiveness of Marpol 73/78 in the prevention of marine pollution and the recovery of marine pollution caused by ships. Using International Regime Theory, this paper will also explain about the case of oil spill of MT Kharisma Selatan and how Indonesia as a country that already ratifies the Marpol Response toward that issue. This research is done where the context are analysed using compliance theory. As the result, Indonesia’s level of compliance with the implementation of Marpol regulation is expected to be able to create Indonesian Marine Area that is clean and free of pollution as meant in the concept of maritime security for maritime countries including Indonesia to achieve. | en_US |
