dc.description.abstractAnticonvulsant is one of class of drugs often used off-label. This study was conducted to determine the off-label use of anticonvulsants. This study was an observational study with retrospective data collection. Data were obtained from a private hospital in Yogyakarta during 2014. The off-label use of anticonvulsants was defined a prescribing of medication outside indication that approved by The National Agency of Drug and Food Control Indonesia (NA-DFC). The use of anticonvulsants during 2014 were in 5,310 prescriptions given to 1,316 patients. Some of 462 patients (35.11%) received an off-label use of anticonvulsants. The anticonvulsants used off-label were oxcarbazepine (67.27%), pregabalin (45.45%), carbamazepine (46.15%), phenytoin (37.62%), valproate (25.34%), and gabapentin (18.28%). The highest off-label use of anticonvulsants was found in neurological and psychiatric disorders (67,32%), which 97.19% of them were not supported by strong clinical evidence. The off-label use of anticonvulsants occurred in 35.11% patients, even though most of them was a lack of evidenceen_US
