dc.description.abstractPeriodontal disease is the second most common oral disease experienced by the community. One of the most common forms of periodontal disease is gingivitis. Smoking is one of the local factors of gingivitis. Data from previous studies indicate that smoking habits have begun at a young age or adolescence. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the relatioship between the number of cigarettes smoked per day with the gingival health status in young adult smokers. Method: The design used in this research is an observational analytic with crosssectional approach. The group that were compared between the criteria of light smoker and moderate smoker. The gingival health status is assessed by inspection with the category of gingival normal and gingivitis. Result: Data analysis using Chi-Squre with significant value p=0,000 (p<0,05). Conclusion: The number of cigarettes smoked per day are associaded with the gingival health status in young adult smokers. Moderate smokers are more susceptible to gingivitis than light smokers.en_US
