This thesis attempts to provide an explanation of the background of authoritarian leadership of Kim Jong-Un in North Korea. Kim Jong-Un is the son of Kim Jong-Il who was the ruler of North Korea from 1994-2011, who succeeded the previous leader Kim Il-Sung (Kim Jong-Un's grandfather). Kim Jong-Un earned the position of North Korean leader from generation to generation (inheritance) from his family. Kim Jong-Un is considered to successfully continue the tradition of leadership with the authoritarian style of his predecessors. Young leaders generally tend to lead in a style that tends toward democracy or freedom, but Kim Jong-Un has actually succeeded in authoritarian leadership. By using the concept of authoritarianism and elitist theory by Gaetano Mosca this thesis will try to expose the background that affects Kim Jong-Un in carrying out his leadership pattern.en_US
