Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease that can’t curable but can be controlled by treatment. Insulin leaf is one of nonpharmacological therapies that can used . Insulin leaf (Smallanthus sonchifolius) containing 40 to 70 % oligofructose and high polyphenol that can decrease blood sugar levels diabetic patiens. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the insulin leaf in decreasing blood glucose levels in rattus norvegicus with induction of alloxan. This is a quasi experimental study with pre- and post- test design with control group design. The samples used were 24 male Rattus norvegicus divided into four groups whice six rats in each group. The group OO (alloxan without medication), OG (alloxan + glibenclamide), OS (alloxan + smallathus sonchifolia 1 time), OSS (alloxan + smallanthus sonchifolia 2 times) . All samples were first induced by alloxan dose of 27,82 mg /rat. After all of sample have hyperglycemia followed adduction smallanthus sonchifolia by oral dose of 3cc/rat. Blood glucose measurements performed by 3 times those are before induction, after induction and after intervention. The measurement results were analyzed by one-way ANOVA. The results showed there are significant differences in decrease blood glucose levels on the group OS against OO, p value = 0,002 and group OSS gainst OO with p value = 0,038. The conclusion of this study is Smallanthus sonchifolius can decrease blood glucose levels in group OS and group OSSen_US
