Education in Indonesia is facing several problems. Various violence happening in educational sector lately become evidence of the severity of the challenges being faced. One of the toughest challenges is the establish- ment of the students’ behavior to uphold human values . The policy on education is not fully able to change the students’ behaviors that tend to deny the existence of other people and groups. Pesantren as Islamic educa- tional institutions is considered able to provide wide insight which is not only limited on how to create and/or establish intelligence for the otak, but also how to instill values educating students’ watak. This paper shows that pesantren can be the first choice to shape the behavior of students in order to accommodate two- intelligence at the same time, with priority for the fulfillment of quality and academic norms as a foothold implementation.
