dc.description.abstract | This study aims determine the conceptual contribution of Ahmad Tafsir's
theory on teachers to education in Indonesia.
This research is a library research which is a study whose main object is
written literatures. The data sources are classified into the following categories;
primary, secondary and supporting data. This study employs a qualitative
approach, namely an approach that focus on the quality or the essential nature of
an item or service.
The source of this study consists of primary and secondary sources. The
primary sources are the works of Ahmad Tafsir entitled; “Ilmu Pendidikan dalam
Perspektif Islam (Educational Science in an Islamic Perspective)”, “Filsafat
Pendidikan Islam (Philosophy of Islamic Education)”, and “Ilmu Pendidkan
Islam (Islamic Education)”. Ahmad Tafsir’s concept of teacher is explored based
on these works. As for secondary sources, this study employs literatures that
related to the concept of teacher and literatures that discussed Ahmad Tafsir’s
thought on education in books, theses, journals, papers, and so on.
The results of this study indicate that the teacher must be professional, and
in order to be a professional, a teacher have the following characteristics; 1).
Muslim; 2). Being expert on his/her field of study; 3). Having dedication; 4).
Compassion for students; 5). Gentle and humble; 6). Respecting knowledge; 7).
Fair; 8). Love ijtihad; and 9). Matching his/her words with his/her action. The
implementation of the professionalism should take place firstly at the level of the
foundation or institution that manages the school; secondly, at the level of school
leaders by way of appointing principals who are professional and experts on their
field; thirdly at the level of teaching staffs, which means that the school
stakeholders must only employ professionals teachers; fourthly, at the level of
