dc.description.abstractThis research aims to produce a portfolio concerning strategic orientation of foreign policy in Indonesia and Malaysia through various activities, which are examining legal documents of Indonesia and Malaysia with content analysis and framing analysis focusing on strategic orientation of Indonesia and Malaysia foreign policy to deeply understand the essential constructed message in it, understanding the development of Indonesian and Malaysian foreign policies, examining Indonesian and Malaysian foreign policies process and outputs, proposing academic recommendation to Indonesia and Malaysia in order to enhance bilateral relations as well as to prevent bilateral tension between the two nations, designing foreign policy handbook as academic guidance to those who interested in foreign policy analysis such as diplomats, IR students, researchers as well as the public and the result of this research is expected to publish in reputable international conferences and peer-reviewed journals. Data collection in this research on strategic orientation of Indonesia and Malaysia foreign policy employs sampling, by which three products of primary regulation belonging to each country become sample of the research. The data analysis or interpretation utilizes content and framing analysis towards the use of specific word (sign) based on level, context, setting and roadmap of how the legal documents have been formulated. The advantages of conducting this research collaboration between the Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, (UMY) Indonesia and Universiti Sains Malaysia, (USM) Malaysia are: 1) both institutions have more opportunity to enhance study on non-traditional security, and 2) this research can practically become a portfolio as reference for political decision making process and contribute to the establishment of progressive management system of strategic orientation of foreign policy in Indonesia and Malaysia. The technology readiness level (TRL) for this research is on the 3rd level, and it is expected to contribute to the study pertaining foreign policy evaluations between Indonesia and Malaysia.en_US
