dc.descriptionBackground : Air freshener contains formaldehyde that has toxic effects on the liver. Damage can be reduced by antioxidants. Date palm pollen contains flavonoids and phytochemicals that are known to have hepatoprotective effects. This research is aimed to assess the effect of date palm pollen on the liver histology due to exposure of air freshener. Method : A quasi experimental study with post-test only control group design. The subject is 32 male rats (Rattus norvegicus) divided into 8 groups, the control group (K0); exposed to room air freshener 4 hours/day (P); given date palm pollen with a dose of 120 mg/kg BW, 240 mg/kg BW, and 360 mg/kg BW (K1, K2, K3); and exposed to air freshener 4 hours/day and given date palm pollen with a dose of 120 mg/kg BW, 240 mg/kg BW, and 360 mg/kg BW (PK1, PK2, PK3). Treatment was given for 30 days, then rats were dissected to collect liver organs. Liver histological damage assessed by Manja Roenigk's scoring. Data analysis used statistical tests One Way ANOVA and post hoc Duncan. Results : Exposure to date palm pollen has positive effect on reducing liver histology damage score in K2, K3, PK1, PK2, and PK3 groups, indicated by absence of significant differences with K0 group. Group K1 had score approach P group that significantly different from K0 group. Conclusion : Administration of date palm pollen (Phoenix dactylifera) had a positive effect on reducing liver histology damage of white rats (Rattus norvegicus) exposed to air freshener was assessed based on Manja Roenigk's liver histological damage score.en_US
