Conventional paddy fields (monoculture) is massively applied by farmers because it is considered to of enhance productivity, yet monoculture planting patterns have a negative impact on ecological and agronomic aspects. In addition, surjan paddy fields (polyculture) are considered capable for providing ecosystem stability with the interaction between terrestrial and aquatic (allochthonous) species. Beside, aquatic organisms have significant role in the food chain cycle. Therefore, terrestrial organisms require aquatic habitat to regenerate and look for prey. This research was conducted aimed to explore the diversity and abundance of aquatic organisms in conventional paddy fields and surjan paddy fields in Kulon Progo. This research used light trap snare as a research method. The results of identifying conventional paddy fields showed medium diversity with an index value of H’=1,17. Surjan paddy fields showed medium diversity with an index value H’=1,24. Conventional paddy fields indicated medium dominance in the entire cultivation phase with an index value D=0,63. Surjan paddy fields sho indicated medium dominance in the entire cultivation phase with an index value D=0,64.en_US
