Background: Oral cavity is primarily covered by mucous membrane. The colour alteration in the oral cavity can be considered as an indicator to determine a pathological state. However, several mucosal discolourations are not pathological condition because there are changes in the anatomy of the oral cavity categorised as normal variations. One of the normal variations often appearing on the buccal mucosa is linea alba buccalis. There have been some people presuming that linea alba buccalis leads to a malignant condition. The lack of understanding concerning normal variations in the society has been causing negative perceptions about them. Aim: this research was aimed to describe normal variations in the oral cavity, especially the prevalence of line alba buccalis, amongst dentistry students enrolled at Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta. This research was an observational descriptive research which accommodated cross-sectional design. The data were gathered using intraoral examination to the subjects. The data were then analysed using descriptive analysis. Results: research results showed that the prevalence of linea alba buccalis was measured at 22.5%. Female students had higher prevalence of linea alba buccalis (79.52%) than that of male students (20.48%). The prevalence of linea alba buccalis located on the bilateral position (71.09%) was higher than that of theright unilateral (22.89%) and the left unilateral (6.07%). Conclusion: the prevalence of linea alba buccalis amongst dentistry students enrolled at Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta was measured at 22.5%.en_US
