dc.description | Cancer is one of the diseases caused by free radicals. There are many compounds that can be used as anti-cancer. One of them is Gamavuton-0 (GVT-0). GVT-0 is one of the derivative compounds of curcumin. GVT-0 can be synthesized using the starting material (vanillin) and acetone material. However, the results from GVT-0 synthesis are not pure enough. Thus, the purification is necessary in order to separate the GVT-0 with the starting material (vanillin). In order to conduct the separation, chromatotron is used as the tool. The separation technique of chromatotron uses centrifugal force and gravitational force. Therefore, this research aims to investigate the effectiveness of chromatotron towards the purification of GVT-0.
The study was conducted with four phases of GVT-0 synthesis, the isolation of GVT-0 synthesis results, the purification of GVT-0 synthesis, and the analysis of GVT-0 purity. The synthesis process of GVT-0 used microwave because it was faster in process and more efficient energy when compared to conventional heating. The process of isolation using heat aquades aimed at reducing vanillin that was still exist in the crude of the synthesis of GVT-0. Isolation was conducted twice to maximize the vanillin reduction. The purification process results in the synthesis of GVT-0 was using Chromatotron. The purification process was conducted out by dissolving 2.5 grams of crude synthesis of GVT-0 with 5 mL of chloroform. Then, the separation process was conducted and resulted in rendmen of 0.58%. Next, the rendemen was conducted by the purity test using the Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) four eluen and melting point.
The results obtained from the TLC four eluen has shown that there were one spot on all the eluen used. This indicates that the rendmen was purely obtained by the TLC. Then the melting point that was recorded is 87.9 – 89.8 oC. The melting point is fulfilled range of rendmen purification requirements which is 1-2 oC. So that the rendmen obtained purely by the number of melting point. | en_US |
