dc.description.abstract | Fatimah root (Labisa pumila) has been empirically used by pregnant mothers following delivery to increase involution process of the uterine. This practice requires scientific explanation, since previous studies showed that Fatimah root has an oestrogenic characteristic which is theoretically potential to inhibit the involution process of the uterine postpartum. The aim of this study was to examine the involution process of the uterine in experiment rats after the supplementation of Fatimah root infusion. Pregnant rats were divided into six groups of five, three groups (group I, group II and group III) each for control and experiment group respectively. Following delivery, a single dose of infusion (1.8 g/kg body weight) were given a day to the treatment groups for 3, 5 and 7 days respectively, whereas none for the controls. At the end of the experiment, all rats were sacrificed by decapitation. The uterine were then collected and examined macroscopically as well as microscopically. Histological features were observed including the diameter of the uterine and the thickness of endometrium and myometrium. The one way analysis of variance continued with the Least Significant Difference (LSD) was employed for data analysis. The result showed that the group I experiment’s group with three days infusion showed bigger uterine, more thickness of endometrium and myometrium compared to their control counterpart (statistically significant), speculating inhibition of uterine involution process by the infusion. The group II experiment’s group with five days infusion showed bigger uterine, thicker endometrium, but thinner myometrium compared to their control counterpart, speculating possible activation of the involution process. Statistically significant different (p<0.05) was observed in the group III experiment’s group with seven days infusion. This group showed smaller uterine, thicker endometrium and myometrium. Therefore, it was concluded that infusion of Fatimah root for three days tend to inhibit the uterine involution process, whilst infusion for five and seven days activated the process. | en_US |
