      Abstract
      Safety is an important factor in transportation planning. When planning transport safety course be the main consideration in addition to the convenience and economical. In this case to identify the cause of the accident rate is certainly very important. Given the traffic accident is a cause of high mortality in Indonesia, as many as approximately 6547 events (Traffic Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya). The purpose of this study is to conduct a Road Safety Inspections on Jalan Wates, Yogyakarta KM KM 5 to 10. On the characteristics and the potential for accidents and highway facilities to compare research sites with existing regulations in Indonesia. The results showed that the highest number of casualties suffered minor injuries as many as 30 people, with the causes of accidents is the human factor as many as 13 events. Based on the incidence of its case, the most common type is the type (KDK) Accident Without Turning Movement Two vehicles were 11 cases, with the type of collision (Re) Rear-End as many as seven events. Most types of vehicles involved in the accident is a motorcycle and the sex most accidents involved were male as many as 13 people, ages 11-20, as many as seven people. Based on observations in the field found some indications of problems that the vehicle in and out of PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Limestone at certain hours, and increasing the visiting hours are 10:00 to 11:30 and 16:30 to 17:30 o'clock is not available for pedestrian crossing facilities at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Limestone region, public transport that raises and lowers the passengers in any place, found a vehicle that took the lane opponent to overtake a vehicle visitors to the store / kiosk parked on the shoulder of the road, the vehicles are out to Agen Bus Efficiency Ambarketawang, the absence of signs warning bus stops, traffic jams at rush hour, the vehicles out Perengdawe filling stations, out of the vehicle in Jalan Wates, Yogyakarta KM 9.
