      Abstract
      This article aims to discuss the excellence of boarding school knows as Pesantren-in the modern era in managing curriculum. Some facts proved that during the 15th century, pesantren was still regarded as one of the best educational institutions to shape the character of the nation. This is supported by the material, strategy and traditional curriculum which precisely answers the challenges of modernization- which is still maintained today. The conclusions of this article are at least three, which makes boarding remained consistent. Firstly, values, system, and educational materials. Secondly, the dormitory system which is full of discipline, to create cohesion „the three center‟ of education: formal, informal and non-formal. Thirdly, the material in schools combined the revealed knowledge and acquired knowledge. It is mean that pesantren occurred the integration of science. In addition, the hidden curriculum adopted by schools produces highly qualified students.
