      COMPARISON STUDY OF YOUTH AND CIGARETTE FACTORY WORKER PERCEPTIONS TOWARD CIGARETTE ADVERTISEMENT AND THEIR SMOKING BEHAVIOR BEFORE AND AFTER EXPOSURE TO BRIEF PHYSICIAN COUNSELING IN SLEMAN AND KUDUS REGENCY

      Abstract
      Background: Tobacco and Cigarettes, two things which have no doubt contain various hazardous substances. Cigarettes in Indonesia, is now not only belong to adult individuals, but has expanded to be used by children and adolescents, even, its warnings on the packs are often ignored because the youth feel more interested in trying smoking. On the other hand, tobacco workers are a part of cigarettes productions. They are important since they are automatically involved in and get the impact of various hazardous substances. Objectives: to identifS’ the effectiveness of cigarette counseling in youth and tobacco workers. Methods : This study is a quantitative observational-experimental study using a questionnaire about the perception of tobacco advertising and youth smoking behavior in 175 respondents from Kudus age 15-30 and 180 from Sleman respectively and 41 from Kudus and 31 cigarette factory workers from Sleman. Qualitative method also used in exploring arjy hidden opinion. Results of quantitative and qualitative data are analyzed using SPSS 15 and grounded theory methodology respectively. Result : counseling can provide better perception and change the behavior for those 4 groups, but their strength and significance vary from youth in Kudus and Sleman and cigarette factory worker in both regencies (Youth in Kudus: perception 0.028 sig 0.714, behavior: 0.060, sig. 0.430, Youth in Sleman: perception 0.669 sig 0.000, behavior: 0.449 sig. 0.000. Cigarette factory worker in Kudus : perception -0.243 sig. 0.125 behaviour: 0.4 18 sig. 0.006. Cigarette factory worker in Sleman, perception 0.271 sig. 0.140, behavior 0.662 sig, 0.000) Discussion : Counseling can’t stand alone in changing people behavior in smoking as there are many factors that play significant role to this issue such as social culture, previous knowledge, and economic factors. Besides that, we can use several strategies as additional efforts to make them balance. However, this “yin” and “yang” describe as scale to create balance in life.
