STRATEGI MNC “SAMSUNG” MENGHADAPI REZIM INVESTASI ASING STUDI KASUS : FAKTOR KEPINDAHAN PRODUKSI MNC “SAMSUNG” DARI THAILAND KE VIETNAM TAHUN 2015
Abstract
Samsung Electronics is a South Korean multinational electronics company
engaged in consumer electronics, information technology and mobile
communications, and device solutions businesses worldwide. The consumer
electronics business division provides cable television, monitor, printer, airconditioners,
refrigerators, washing machines, and medical devices. The
information technology and mobile communications business division offers
handheld products, communication systems, computers, and digital cameras. The
device solutions business division comprises of memory, large scale of integrated
circuit and Light Emitting Diode (LED).
This study aims to determine the Thai government policies that led to
Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. moving production to Vietnam. This study will use
analysis of four motivational companies to invest into a country. Four of the
motivation is the resource seeking FDI, market seeking FDI, efficiency seeking
FDI, and strategic assets seeking FDI. The method used in analyzing the data is
qualitative. The method of data collection will use content analysis and historical
research.
Results from this study is there are some factors of Thai government
policies that caused the Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. move production to
Vietnam. There are two policies that the main reason is the tax policy and labor
policy. Included in the tax policy reason for resource seeking FDI. Tax policy
applied by Thailand was considered less favorable to Samsung Electronics Co.
Ltd. although the tax rate in Thailand is lower, but Vietnam offers a variety of tax
breaks such as tax holiday for 30 years to Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. The
second factor is the policy of wage labor in the efficiency seeking FDI. Labor
policies applied by Thailand higher than Vietnam. To keep production costs
down, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. prefer Vietnam to undertake the production.
