Balkans is a term given to the European region in the Southeast. Western Balkans is a term given to the Western Balkans region. Countries that become the part of Western Balkans are Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia. Ideological system that adopted by the countries of the Western Balkans earlier was communist. But today, these countries are able to transform into countries that embrace democratic system. Thus, this journal wants to research about the EU’s role in Western Balkans in its democratization. The democratization efforts in the Western Balkans cannot be separated by the role of the European Union. As an international actor/ external factor, EU can affects the economy system become free-trade area and EU can make the democratic institution stronger than before in the Western Balkans. The method of this research use secondary data like literature review, journal, books, article, or newspaper. The EU’s role and its influence in the democratization efforts in the countries of the Western Balkans is very clearly visible. Until now, it can be proved that the EU is capable to affect countries in the Western Balkans become its members, it can be seen that the countries of the Western Balkans is able to enter into candidate member countries of the EU.
