      Abstract
      This study is intended to investigate students’ perception towards the implementation of Cooperative Learning method in 2013 Material Design class at English Education Department of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (EED UMY). There are two focuses of this study. They are firstly to find the benefits of the implementation of Cooperative Learning in Material Design class at EED UMY and to explore the problemsof the implementation of Cooperative Learning in Material Design class at EED UMY. The research design of this study was qualitative research. The participants were three students of batch 2013. They were asked about their perception in one on one interview. The interview session was recorded, transcribed then analyzed using coding procedure. The finding revealed eleven benefits and three problems. The benefits are improving students’ critical thinking, developing students’ teamwork skill, raising students’ confidence in expressing opinion, improving students’ communication skill, promoting students’ mutual respect, increasing individual responsibility, becomingactivestudents, growing positive interdependence, learning about conflict management, growinglearning motivation, and improving students’ understanding of material. The problems are individual dominance, difficulty to equalize perception and lack of individual responsibility.
