      Abstract
This research aims to find out students’ perception on speaking teaching strategies applied by teachers and the difficulties which are encountered by students in doing teachers’ speaking strategies. It was conducted at EED of UMY involving four students batch 2015. This research employed qualitative method and used descriptive qualitative as the research design to present the findings. In collecting the data, standardized open-ended interview was conducted. This research had two findings. The first finding was regarding to speaking teaching strategies applied by EED of UMY teachers. Those were presentation, discussion, speech, retelling, and simulation which were conducted by the teachers with various activities. The second finding was about students’ difficulties in doing those teachers’ teaching strategies. It was found out that the difficulties faced by students in doing teachers’ teaching strategies were in terms of lack of vocabulary, inability to understand topic or theme given by teacher, poor grammar, poor pronunciation, anxiety, fear of making mistake, and nervousness. Furthermore, those strategies were often encountered by students in doing presentation and discussion. This research unfortunately did not found out the difficulties encountered by students in doing retelling, speech, and simulation. It was considered as the weakness of this research.
