dc.description | Beijing has special place for women movement in the world. Beijing became the venue of the Fourth World Conference on Women in September 1995. This conference was attended by 17,000 participants and 30,000 activists from around the globe. They aimed to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women everywhere. After two weeks of intensive political debate, representatives of 189 governments agreed upon commitments toward norm of gender equality . The Beijing Conference represented a turning point in the development of gender equality policies in the world.
