      Abstract
      Dictation is one of technique that is commonly used for teaching listening. Some experts have revealed that there are several types of dictation implementation. However, during the implementation of dictation there are several challenges faced by teachers and students. This study is aimed to explore English teachers’ views and experiences of dictation technique in teaching listening at one of junior high schools in Yogyakarta in terms of the dictation implementation and its challenges. A qualitative descriptive was used as a research design. The researcher used an interview to collect the data. Meanwhile, the participants who were involved in this study were two English teachers who had implemented dictation as a technique for teaching listening at SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Yogyakarta. The findings of this research showed that there were three types of dictation that the English teachers implemented in teaching listening, namely one change dictation, peer dictation and dictation using songs. Besides, in implementing dictation in teaching listening there are three challenges of dictation, namely difficult in managing students, difficult in pronuncing and spelling vocabulary for teachers, and difficult in writing vocabulary for students.
