Abstract
Tooth discoloration is one of the aesthetic problems in dentistry. Tooth
discoloration caused by extrinsic factor and intrinsic factor. Thirty five percent
Carbamide Peroxide commonly used on office-bleaching that has been approved
as a safe and effective bleaching material by American Dental Association (ADA).
Strawberry (fragaria x annanassea) is natural materials that can be used as
dental bleaching material because it contains ellagic acid.
This research aimed to find out the difference of teeth color after
immersion strawberry juice and 35% carbamide peroxide.
This research was designed using experimental laboratory. The samples
were 24 teeth post-extraction, then divided into 2 groups, the first group was
treated by immersion in 100% strawberry fruit juice for 30, 60 and 90 minutes.
The second group was treated by immersion in 35% peroxide carbamide at the
same time. The color of the tooth is measured using a shade guide. The data was
analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis test and continued with Mann-Whitney Test.
This study shows that the immersion of strawberry juice causes the teeth
become brighter. Tooth color changing that already immersed in strawberry juice
and carbamide peroxide 35% showed not different significantly at 30, 60 or 90
minute immersion.
The conclusion is strawberry juice can be used as an alternative material
for dental bleaching.
