The presidential election 2015 in Burundi had caused several demonstrations. The announcement of Pierre Nkurunziza running for the third time made Burundian people went on rage. Protesters expressed their concern about this act, violating Burundi Constitutions and Arusha peace accord that ended 2005 civil war in Burundi. Demonstration that took place in capital city of Burundi, Bujumbura, caused approximately 300 casualties and 200.000 refugees. These situations have impacted to social, economic and security in neighbouring countries such as Rwanda and Tanzania. African Union as a regional organization in Africa, believes the turmoil shall be handled by a collective action. This paper will explain more the reason behind humanitarian intervention from African Union to Burundi’s turmoil 2015-2016 under the role of African Union.
