PENGARUH VARIASI WAKTU ETCHING PELAPISAN NIKEL TERHADAP KARAKTERISTIK FISIK DAN MEKANIK PADA PLASTIK ABS DENGAN METODE ELEKTROLESS PLATING
Abstract
Plastic is one of the most frequently used materials today because plastic has many properties that are beneficial to human life, such as ABS plastic (Akrilonitril Butadiena Stiren). ABS Plastic is widely used in the field of engineering, such as for the needs of electronics, automotive, etc .. But there are still weaknesses of ABS plastic, such as low hardness, not friction resistant, and not heat resistant, it is necessary to surface treatment. Electroless plating is a coating process that does not use electricity in the coating process. This study aims to analyze the effect of time variation of etching electroless nickel on roughness, wear, hardness, and thickness.
Electroless plating process using ABS plastic material with length 80 mm, width 7 mm, and 3 mm thick. The etching time variations used were 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 minutes with elektroless plating using nickel metal. After the specimen was subjected to electroless plating then it was tested for roughness, wear and tear, hardness, and thickness.
The results showed that the electroless plating process changed the surface of the specimen to be coated by nickel metal. The increase in the roughness of the specimens from 0.434 μm to 0.882 μm. The breakdown of specific wear values from 1.248 cm2 / kg to 0.464 cm2 / kg. The sample hardness increased from 83.5 shore to 83.7 shore, then decreased to 83.3 shore and rose again to 84 shore. The coating thickness increased from 1.02 μm to 1.95 μm.
