      Abstract
Along with the development of the era, the use of plastics in the field of industrial increasing, one type of plastic that is often used in the production needs of ABS plastic (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) Electroless nickel plating is one method of nickel plating that can be applied to ABS plastic, the purpose of research is to know the effect of coating time on physical and mechanical characteristics that occur. The research was conducted by electroless nickel plating method with sequence of surface preparation process, metallization process with time varying during electroless stage (4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 min), then the process of testing the coating results. The tests were measured roughness, hardness, wear and thickness. The test results showed that the specimen with 12 minutes yielded the highest value with a roughness value of 0.33 μm, wearness value 0.66 cm2/kg, 3.98 μm micro thickness test value, and SEM thickness test value of 5, 17 μm. Then a specimen with a time of 4 minutes yielded the lowest value with a roughness value of 0.70 μm, wearness value 2.62 cm2/kg, and micro thickness test value of 1.29 μm.
