      Abstract
      This research aims at investigating learning strategies of special needs Students at Grade Seven in learning english language at School for Special Need SLB/B N 1 Kasihan Bantul. Besides, this research also attempts to identify what learning strategies do hearing impaired students use in learning English. To obtain the data, the researcher employed qualitative approach with interview and observation as the data collecting instruments. The respondents of this research were four hearing impaired students at SLB/B N 1 Kasihan Bantul. For data analysis, the result from the interview were coded and categorized. The result of this research showed that the respondents use a combination of strategies that called Total communication Method. The respondents revealed that the respondents used writing, reading, media and sign language in learning English language. Students in this research can improve their ability in order to learning English language. Students act according to their ability and learning a lesson in English, total communication method adapts to the ability of students in the hope of increasing the understanding of hearing impaired students to the subject matter presented by the teacher.
