PENGARUH VARIASI WAKTU PENEMBAKAN SHOT PEENING TERHADAP STRUKTUR MAKRO, STRUKTUR MIKRO, KEKASARAN, KEKERASAN, WETTABILITY, DAN LAJU KOROSI PADA STAINLESS STEEL AISI 316L
Abstract
In the medical field, stainless steel AISI 316L materials is widely applied to implants and fair heal broken bones, due to its as high corrosion-resistant, high strength, attractive appearance. However 316L material has lower tribological properties than that of titanium or cobalt alloy. As for its necessary to improve the property by a surface treatment. Shot peening is one of surface treatments by firing the steel balls at a constant high speed. This study aims to analyze the effect of shooting time variations on macro structure, micro structure, roughness, microhardness, wettability and corrosion rate on stainless steel 316L.
The process of shot peening using SS 316L material with 4 mm being cut into 2 mm x 2 mm square and circle with diameter 14 mm. The time variations used were 5, 10, and 15 minutes with nozzle distance of 100 mm perpendicular samples, and using a steel ball with a diameter of 0.6 mm. After the surface treatment specimens were tested for macro structure, micro structure, roughness, microhardness, wettability and corrosion resistance value.
The results showed that the shooting process of shot peening shifts the macro structure of the former crater from the steel balls, the micro structure becomes more flat. The decrease in specimen thickness from 3.83 mm to 3.65 mm.
Increased surface roughness from 0.05 μm to 2.8 μm. The sample microhardness increased from 240.08 kg / mm2 to 328.45 kg / mm2. The surface character of the sample is hydrophilic (absorbing water). There was a decrease of corrosion resistance (raw material of 28.50 mpy in up to 35.60 mpy
