PENGARUH FRAKSI VOLUME SERAT TERHADAP KUAT TARIK DAN TEKAN MATERIAL KOMPOSIT UNIDIREKSIONAL SERAT IJUK AREN/POLYESTER
Abstract
The utilization of sugar palm fibers is limited to the manufacture of brooms, ropes and industrial building filtration materials and water absorption.The usefulness is not separated from the properties of fibers that elastic, hard, very resistant to acidic water and salt-containing water, and difficult to digest by destructive organisms.So far, this type of palm fibers is only used in general and has not been used specifically by utilizing the potential characteristics of mechanical properties in holding the burden of Pull and press as material for the structure.
The material used in this research sugar palm fibers with polyester matrix and processed by using press mold method technique. The test specimens were prepared according to ASTM D638 standards for tensile specimens and ASTM 3410 for compressive specimens. Variations in fiber volume fraction were planed being 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40% for tensile and press specimens
The actual fiber volume fraction after being analyzed for being 0%; 10,54%; 19,42%; 27,74%; and 40,83 % for tensile specimen were found. While for compressive specimens ware found being 0%; 10,98%; 16, 56 %; 28,89 %; and 39,36% . Testing results show that the greater the fiber volume fraction increases the tensile strength but decreases the value of compressive strength. The highnest, tensile strength was found at Vf 40,83 % which is 43,259 MPa and the smallest tensile strength is at Vf 0% which is 33,437 MPa, and for the highnest compressive strength was found at 0,0% Vf which is 87,253 MPa and the lowest compression strength was found at Vf 16,56 % which is 50,464 MPa. For the highnest tensile modulus was found at Vf 40,83 % which is 1754,65 MPa and the lownest tensile elastic modulus was found at Vf 0% which is 1380,13 MPa,
