PEMBUATAN DAN KARAKTERISASI TEKAN DAN IMPAK KOMPOSIT HYBRID SERAT IJUK ACAK/SERAT GELAS ANYAM BERMATRIK POLYESTER
Abstract
Globalization of knowledge today has reached another level with new potensial emerging. One of an emerging science is composite materials that needed by industrial sector such as military, automotive and so on. Composite materials is a material made by physically combining two or more materials to produce a preferably combination of physical and mechanical properties. Currently, composite materials are being increasingly developed, for example utilizing hybrid composite as filler which made by combining synthetic fiber and natural fiber.
Quality of a material can be determined visually through compressive and impact test. It is related to the phenomenon that often occur in construction and automotive sector. Production of hybrid composite fiber glass which has polyester matriks using press mold can be done by compressive test and impact test carried out according to ASTM D3410 and ASTM D256. In this research, ratio of volume fraction beetwen fiber and matriks are 40:60 with 5 different number of fiber glass layer 0, 1, 2, 3, 4.
The result indicated that variation of fiber glass number affected to compressive strength value and modulus of elasticity. The lowest value compressive strength was obtained at 0 layer 25,17 MPa and highest value was obtained at 4 layer as 67,38 MPa while the lowest modulus elasticity was obtained at 0 layer as 57,214 MPa and highest value was obtained at 4 layer as 124,767 MPa. It was also found out that variation of fiber glass number affected to impact toughness value. The highest value impact toughness shown at 3 layer of fiber glass 0,1058J/mm² and the lowest value obtained at 0 layer of fiber glass 0,0122 J/mm².
