      Abstract
Fusion welding has weaknesses in the welding of solid cylinder material. Welding can only be done on the outer surface, while it is difficulty on the centre do of the welding process. The research is to know the effect of friction pressure on tensile strength, microstructure and hardness of Continuous Drive Friction Welding joint. The material used in this research is the solid cylindrical metal Stainless Steel 304. The solid cylindrical metal Stainless Steel 304 was of cut 75 mm longs, and done machining process by a lathe machine in accordamed to standard JIS Z 2201. The welding process were conducted by variation friction pressure of 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 80, 90, 100, 110 and 120 MPa. Welding procedure was carried out using friction time is 10 seconds, upset pressure 150 MPa, upset time of 10 seconds. Friction is done with a rotation machine friction welding 1000 rpm. The joint were exaimed by tensile strength testing, microstructure testing, and vickers hardness testing. The result that tensile strength increase as the friction pressure are used. The highest tensile strength is obtained from variation friction pressure of 120 MPa with a value is 685 MPa, and the lowest tensile strength at 20 MPa friction variation of 402 MPa. The result of microstructure testing of friction pressure variation 120 MPa has changed the microstructure between the weld joint area with the base metal Stainless 304. While the variation of 20 MPa friction pressure did not change the microstructure. The distance of base metal to weld area influencing the hardness value, the closer the distance the base metal to weld area, the value of the hardness decrease. Of all the variations of friction pressure, the corresponding pressure is 120 MPa because of observed from the result of tensile strength.
