      Abstract
Background : Asthma is a common and severe disease of chronic inflammatory diseases. There are estimated 300 million people suffering from asthma worldwide on 2011 and it is estimated that the number of asthma patients reaches 600 million on 2025. Nowadays, asthma medication is aimed at treating and preventing the symptoms of airway obstruction, consisting of reliever and controller. The combination of this controller and reliever is beta 2 agonists and corticosteroids. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship of drug combinations of beta 2 agonists and corticosteroids in overcoming the recurrence of asthma. Methods : The design of this study was cross sectional, there were 54 sample from purposive sampling. The subjects was asthma patients at RSUD Sleman. Data were collected by interview using the Asthma Control Test questionnaire and see the medical record for the treatment being undertaken. The questionnaire used has been tested for validity and reliability then processed using Chi Square. Result : In the statistical test there was a significant association between the combination of beta 2-agonist and corticosteroid and the relapse of asthma (p = 0.022). The results of the study using descriptive statistics obtained patients with mild recurrence given the drug beta 2 agonist as much as 1 person and no patients who received mild recurrence drug combination therapy. Patients relapse are given a combination of drugs as many as 20 people while those who were given beta 2 agonists as many as 4 people. Severe recurrence patients were given combination drugs as many as 15 people while those who were given beta 2 agonists were 14 people. These results indicate moderate recurrence data in patients with fewer drug combinations than severe recurrence whereas in patients with beta 2-agonist therapy it showed more patients who had severe recurrence than moderate recurrence. Conclusion : The results can be concluded that the use of drug combinations between beta 2 agonists and corticosteroids decrease asthma relapse.
