      Abstract
      TOEFL test is one of the English tests to measure the student‟s English proficiency. At Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, the score of TOEFL test is used as one ofthe requirements to obtain the degree of Sarjana Pendidikan. This study aimed to find out the problems and strategies in TOEFL test. There are two research questions formulated in this study namely what are the problems faced by EED UMY students in doing TOEFL test and what are the strategies done by EED UMY students in solving problems in doing TOEFL test. This study is a qualitative research with case study design. The participants of this research were four students of EED of UMY. The researcher chose in-depth interview to elicit information from the participants. The data from the interviews were analyzed using coding. The result of this research showed that there were two major problems (Internal & External) that are faced by EED of UMY and also there were nine major strategies that are used by EED of UMY students to overcome the problems. The internal problems were categorized into four major categories namely students‟ linguistic problems, student‟s anxiety, students‟ lack of concentration, and students‟ lack of motivation. The external problems were categorized into two major categories namely audio listening problems, and time limitatin. The strategies were categorized into nine major strategies, they are understanding grammar, doing more practice, listening to English song, asking other students, guessing strategy, being more focus, having motivation, being prepared, and having good time management.
