Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) has strategic role in providing data for development plan of Special Region of Yogyakarta. Statistical data are very important in development such as draw up an estimate of the solution to the problems encountered; determine the direction of development city; formulate a program/plan; evaluate the performance of development. Special Region of Yogyakarta has been received the award of Anugrah Pangripta Nusantara as the Province with the best development planning held by National Development Planning Agency in 2017. This is of course not apart from the role of the Central Bureau of Statistics that contributes in supporting development planning data. This research aims to analyze the role of Central Bureau of Statistics in providing data for development planning of Special Region of Yogyakarta. This research used qualitative research. The data collection methods used the interview. In this research, as the data sources, the informant chosen are those which are considered appropriate and can find out the problems that will be studied relate to the role of Central Bureau of Statistics in providing data for development planning. The location of research is the Central Bureau Statistics of Special Region Yogyakarta. The results show that Central Bureau Statistics of Special Region of Yogyakarta in development planning has run the job description according to Law No. 16 year 1997 about Statistics that has the task to only provide statistical basic data. The Central Bureau of Statistics became the institution that has the direct responsibility to the President. In carry out the duties Central Bureau of Statistics still have obstacles that need to be fixed.
