      Abstract
Background: Depression can decrease a person's productivity and adversely affect themselves, the environment and society. Therefore, depression is one of the most important mental health problems to deal with. According to the study, students have the highest prevalence of depression compared to other populations. Depression on the student can have negative impact for students or for the environment so it needs to be handled immediately. Depression events can be treated with several therapies, ie pharmacological and nonpharmacologic therapies, one of which is with laughter therapy or game humor. Objective: To determine the effect of humor therapy on local cultural wisdom (gobak sodor) to decrease depressive symptoms in overseas students. Research Methods: The design of this study was Quasi Experimental with one group only and data analysis using t-test dependent. The subjects of this study were 31 respondents. Sampling technique using purposive sampling. The research instrument used Back's Depression Inventory questionnaire. Results: There were significant results between before and after the game intervention. Levels of depression prior to intervention were moderate depression by 11 students (35.3%) and major depression as many as 20 students (64.5%) Depression level after intervention was mild depression 24 students (77.4%), moderate depression 5 students (16.5%) and severe depression 2 students (6.5%). The result of data analysis using Wilcoxon Test p = .000 which means 0 <alpha (0.05). It can be concluded that there is a significant difference between pretest and post-test. Conclusion: There is an influence of humor game of local cultural wisdom (gobak sodor) to decrease depressive symptoms in overseas students
