      Abstract
      The mother language will greatly affect by learner in the learning process. Learners will be easier to make sentences or translate sentences when there is a match word. Between gomennasai and nyuwun pangapunten has a sense of forgiveness but both have different uses depending on terms of politeness. Based on this background, the authors are interested to conduct research to determine the similarities and differences in the use of politeness expression gomennasai and nyuwun pangapunten. The method in this research used descriptive qualitative method, and the object of research is politeness expression gomennasai and nyuwun pangapunten. Instrument used data card and the sources of data were obtained from Japanese and Javanese dramas. The author uses the technique of referring to listen to the conversation using the phrase gomennasai and nyuwun pangapunten and record it in the data card, then the data obtained be made a corpus and analyzed. The result of this research are gomennasai and nyuwun pangapunten can be used for maxim: a) tact, b) generosity, c) modesty, d) agreement, and e) sympaty. In terms of politeness is gomennasai used in appreciation maxim while nyuwun pangapunten not.
