      Abstract
      Background: Schizophrenia is one of the severe mental disorders that the disease course lasts chronic. The schizophrenia patients do not only experience the psychotic symptoms but also changes in cognitive function, verbal information, and emotional response as the impacts of the disturbed interpersonal interaction causing the disturbance in social function. Schizophrenia medication with psycho pharmacy can only press the disease psychotic symptoms but it cannot handle the functional deficit. The social skill training is one of the interventions that is able to improve social dysfunction and the life quality in preparing the schizophrenia patients to function in the society. Method: The research design is quasy experimental with the pretest-posttest with one group design. The samples collection in this research uses purposive sampling technique. The research subjects are 28 people with schizophrenia locating in the Public Health Center working area across the Province of DIY. They have fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The research subjects are given social skill training in six times meetings in 6 weeks. The measurements of clinical symptoms of schizophrenia patients uses the PANSS questionnaire. The data collected is analyzed using Wilcoxon Test. Result: The data anaysis uses Wilcoxon Test showing that there is clinical symptoms difference before and after being given the social skill training intervention with the result p=0.000 (p<0.05) meaning that there is an influence of social skill training toward the clinical symptoms of people with schizophrenia. Conclusion: The social skill training has an influence toward the clinical symptoms of people with schizophrenia in community. The schizophrenia patients after getting the social skill training significantly has an improvement on clinical symptoms become better.
