dc.descriptionBackground: Schizophrenia is a disease influencing the brain and causing the emergence of weird and disturbed thoughts, perception, emotion, movement, and behavior. Someone having schizophrenia will affect all aspect of his life indicated by the special psychotic symptoms and experience social function deteriotation such as the disturbance in socializing with others, decreased working function, abstract thinking difficulties, lack of spontaneity, and mind disorder/incoherent. Beside experiencing the failure in running the social function, the schizophrenia patients face problem s related to the bad interpersonal and social skills and experience cognitive function deficit that they finally faces the social isolation and have a bad life quality. Method: The research design is an experimental with an interventional group. The research subject is 29 people with schizophrenia in the Province of DIY. The subjects are given the social skills training in six times meeting. The measurement of the medication adherence uses questionnaire MMAS-8. The time of social skill training giving is during six weeks. The data collected is analyzed using Wilcoxon Sign Rank Test. Results: The comparison of the medication adherence level with the Wilcoxon Sign Rank Test resulting in p=0,000 (p<0,050). Thus, it means that there is an influence of social skill training for people with schizophrenia in community. Conclusion: There is an increase in the medication adherence for people with schizophrenia after being given the social skill training.en_US
