      Abstract
Background: Removable orthodontic treatment is a treatment which can benefit the patient because it can be easily adjusted to the oral cavity. In general there are 5 types of stainless steel wire one of them is austenitic wire type one of which is AISI 304 is a metal base containing 18% - 20% chromium, 8% - 12% nickel, and with a maximum of 0.08% carbon. Mechanical properties of orthodontic wires can be affected by various reasons, one of which is the effect of salivary pH. Corrosion of stainless steel wire in the oral cavity can result in a decrease in the quality of the wire because of its reduced elasticity and permanent deformation of the wire material. The purpose of this research is to knowing the influence of salivary ph toward resilience strength of removable orthodontic stainless steel wire type austenitic. Method: This research is a laboratory experimental research. Data were collected from 35 removable orthodontic stainless steel wire type austenitic that will be devided in 7 group Berdasarkan on salivary pH which is range from 6 – 10 salivary pH and will be heated on the oven by dry heat sterilization method, soaked in saliva pH for three weeks. The resilience strength test was conducted with Pearson Panke Equipment LTD, by pressing the button and perform a loading and unloading compression. Statistikal analysis using One Way Anova Test. But before the data obtained from the research results were tested for normality and homogeneity first. Results: The results of this study showed that on the significance value of the 5 groups shows p <0.05 and 1 other group with p> 0.05. That in the group that showed results of p = 0.136 (p> 0.05) was a group of wires that had the ability to change small resilience or approach changes in resilience in the normal pH group. Conclusion: There is an effect of salivary pH on changes in the properties of resilience in austenitic type stainless steel orthodontic wire material which is result on the deformation of orthodontic wire.
