      Abstract
      Traffic congestion is one of transportation problem in many urban roads. The imbalance of high traffic volume and road capacity is one of problems causing traffic congestion. Traffic congestion will increase travel time, fuel consumption and produce high emission that lead to a negative impact of air pollution. City of Yogyakarta as an education and tourism destination will give significant influences for the traffic volume which impact to traffic congestion. Sentul signalized intersection is one of intersections in Yogyakarta with high traffic volume which is causing traffic congestion. Therefore, the objectives of this study are to analyze the performance of intersection using Vissim 10 program, to estimate the congestion cost, and to give technical recommendations that increase the performance and decrease the congestion cost of intersection. The results shows that performance of intersection is very poor with level of service (LOS) F and average delay is 106.71 second per vehicle. The congestion cost of intersection is IDR. 3,722,627 per hour. The best recommendations are removing the on street parking area, re-setting green time of the signalize, widening each approachment area and north arm of the intersection, and applying left turn on right (LTOR) for the west arm of intersection. The analysis results show that performance is increasing with LOS become E, with average delay of 74.23 second per vehicle, and the congestion cost is becoming IDR. 1,876,757 per hour.
