PERAN AUSTRALIAN FEDERATION OF ISLAMIC COUNCIL (AFIC) DALAM PENDIRIAN LEMBAGA PENERBITAN SERTIFIKAT HALAL DI AUSTRALIA
Abstract
This research aims to explain the role of the Australian Federation of Islamic Council (AFIC) in the agenda of the establishment of a halal certificate publishing institution in Australia. Various lengthy processes have been passed since the emergence of AFIC in 1964 until finally officially mandated to become a halal certificate issuance institution by the Australian government in 2017. This research shows various advocacy activities carried out by AFIC to various international actors namely countries with population the majority of Muslims are Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore which are also Australia's main trading partners, as well as international Islamic organizations which also focus on halal certification issues. It was this international network that later helped AFIC in urging the Australian government to open a blockage to establish a halal certificate issuance institution.
