      Abstract
Fusion welding has difficulties when having to join large diameter solid metal cylinders. To overcome this problem reseach on friction welding has been coducted. Friction welding requires a shorter time. Heat generated does not reach its melting temperature. Welding heat affect is the quality of the join. The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of frictional time on the temperature distribution, microstructure and the hardness distribution on the welded solid cylinders aluminium 6061 T6. The welding process parameter were selected as a follows: rotation parameter of 1000 rpm, friction parameter of 30 MPa, friction time of 2, 4, 6 second, upset pressure of 70 MPa and upset time of 2 seconds. The four thermocouples were located on the static part. After welding process the welded joint were prepared for microstructur examination and hardness test. The research shows that, on the variation of friction time 2 seconds maximum temperature of 210,9649oC accomplished in 3 seconds. The highest hardness value of 59.1 VHN occur on the welded joints. on the variation of friction time 2 seconds maximum temperature of 368,4893oC accomplished in 5 seconds. Maximum temperature of 385.4879oC accomplished in 5 seconds and the lowest hardness of 50.7 VHN on the variation of friction time 6 seconds.
