      Abstract
      Background: The stomatognathic system is a system that responsible for the functions of mastication, speech, and ingestion. Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) is one component that is vital for the stomatognathic system. The cause of symptoms temporomandibular disorder is generally caused by multifactorial such as trauma, stress, and hormones. Men and women have different hormones. Hormone plays a role in the stomatognathic system especially TMJ. Objective: To determine the incidence of temporomandibular disorder based patient’s gender who visited RSGM UMY in February to March 2018. Research: The research method is descriptive observational with Cross Sectional design. Samples were 52 patients of RSGM UMY. Samples were taken on monday until thursday in February to March 2018. Helkimo Index (Anamnestic Index and Dysfunction Index) was used as Respondent's assessment index. Results: Obtained 52 samples, most patients have Aill category 24 (46.2%), 5 men and 19 women, AiO category 18 (25.0%) 11 men and 7 women and Ail category 10 (19.2%) 4 men and 6 women. DiI category 12 (23.1%) women and 6 (11.5%) men, DiII 9 (17.3%) women and 8 (15.4%) men, DiIII 4 (7,7% of women and 0 of men), 13 patients (6 men and 7 women) are in Di0 category or no symptoms. Conclusions: The conclusion is the result of anamnestic Index and Dysfunction Index by Helkimo women has more symptoms of temporomandibular disorder than men in February to March 2018 at RSGM UMY.
