      Abstract
      Background : Some of the fixed orthodontic appliances users complain about gingival hyperplasia in the oral cavity. This condition can occur because the raising of plaque accumulation that include mikroorganisme (bacteria) or debris because lack of oral hygiene in patient. Debris is a predisposing factor for the occurrence of gingivitis because it consists of bacterial plaque, alba material, and leftovers in mouth. Debris cleaning can be done by consuming fruits after meals. Red guava and papaya can be an alternative to clean debris in fixed orthodontic appliances users. Both fruit has a fibrous and juicy texture, so it can clean teeth naturally. Objectives : to identify the difference between red guava (Psidium guajava) and papaya (Carica papaya) to the change of debris index in fixed orthodontic appliances users. Methods : this study used quasy experimental with pre test and post test. Population and sample in this study is Dentistry student age 18 - 24 years old. Sample contain 31 dentistry student that placed in one group. Sampling technique used probability samping with simple random sampling. Results : the study showed that Wilcoxon signed ranked test P = 0.000 (p<0.05), meanwhile the Mann-Whitney test showed that P = 0.091 (p>0.05). Conclusion : consume red guava (Psidium guajava) and papaya (Carica papaya) can cause effect to debris index. But both of those fruits did not show a significant difference in terms of debris index changes.
