      Abstract
Background: The infection in root canal teeth needs a root canal treatment (RCT). It should use an adequate irrigant solution to eliminate bacteria inside the root canal teeth. Enterococcus faecalis is the most powerful bacteria inside the root canal teeth. About 40% existence of Enterococcus faecalis bacteria caused a root canal treatment failure. The most used irrigant solution is NaOCl (sodium hipoclorite). Its side effects are tissue degenerate and high toxicity. White turmeric (Curcuma mangga) is one of herbal medication that mostly used by people. White turmeric have an active compound like atsiri (essential) oil, curcuminoid, saponin, and tannin which can inhibit and eliminate of bacterial growth. Aim: This study aimed to analyze white turmeric (Curcuma mangga) extract capability to inhibit and eliminate Enterococcus faecalis bacterial growth. Method: This research is conducted as an in vitro laboratory experimental. The sample of this study was pure culture of Enterococcus faecalis bacteria ATCC 29212 Yogyakarta Health Laboratory. The method that used is disc diffusion on Mueller Hinton Agar media, then measuring the bacterial inhibition zone with sliding caliper. The positive control which used is NaOCl 5,25% and the negative control used is aquadest. The concentration of white turmeric extract which tested are 100%, 80%, 60%, 40%, and 20%. Result: All of white tumeric extract sample concentrations that tested can inhibit the growth of Enterococcus faecalis. The best result of white tumeric extract is shown at 80% concentration. Conclusion: White turmeric extract can inhibit the Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212 bacteria growth by in vitro laboratory experiment.
