      Abstract
Gingivitis is a reversible gingival tissue inflammation without loss of attachment to the connective tissue and is due to the presence and maturation of plaque. In pregnant women gingivitis is exacerbated by increased estrogen and progesterone hormones, which leads to an increase in the gingival response to plaque. Pregnancy gingivitis may increase the risk of pregnancy such as low birth weight (LBW) and premature birth. The purpose of this research is to describe the gingival health status of pregnant women at Tegalrejo Public Health Center Yogyakarta. This research is an observational descriptive with cross sectional approach. Data were collected from 66 pregnant women who examined their pregnancy at Tegalrejo Public Health Center Yogyakarta. The gingival score was measured by Modified Gingival Index (MGI) according to Lobene. The results of this study showed that all of the sample (100%) had gingivitis. 50 pregnant women (75.8%) had mild gingivitis, and 16 pregnant women (24.2%) had moderate gingivitis. No normal gingiva or severe gingivitis was found in pregnant women at Tegalrejo Public Health Center.
