      Abstract
Background : Candidiasis is one of the infectious diseases that are often found in the oral cavity, which is about 80%. Fungus Candida albicans (C. albicans) is responsible for about 85-95% of the insidence of candidiasis. Fungus C. albicans is a normal flora in the oral cavity that can cause opportunistic infections, which are not pathogenic in healthy individuals, but can become pathogenic if the balance of the body’s defense system is disrupted. Ant-plant (Myrmecodia pendens Merr. & Perry.) are ephiphytic plants that live attached to or hung on a bigger trees. The stalks contain small cavities inhabited by a variety of ant species, especially Ochetellus sp. M. pendans plant contains active compounds such as flavonoid, tannin, and polyphenol. Objective: This research aims to determine the antifungal effect of M. pendans extract etanol and water fraction at any concentration in the growth of C. albicans. Method : The method of this research is purely laboratory in vitro. The extraction was done with 96% ethanol solvent using maceration method, and the fractination was done using separation funnel method. The ethanol extract and water fraction then tested its antifungal effect against C. albicans using diffusion method. Result : The result showed that ethanol extract of M. pendans plant has minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) at a concentration of 50%, with a diameter of 3,95 mm. Water fraction didn’t show the formation of radical zone, while Nystatin has the highest radical zone with a diameter of 16 mm. There is no significant difference between ethanol extract and water fraction of M. pendans plant on the growth of C. albicans. Conclusion : The conclusion showed that ethanol extract of M. pendans plant has an antifungal effect against fungal C. albicans.
