      Abstract
Background: One of the problems of old people was tooth loss which had affected quality of life, especially the ability for mastication process. Tooth loss could be given treatment by using removable artificial teeth or fixed artificial teeth from the materials made of resin. Basically, transversal strength affected acrylic resin strength as the base of artificial teeth. Research Purpose: In general, this research aimed to know if the addition of nano chitosan in acrylic resin gave effect to transversal strength.Research Method: The type of this research is experimental laboratory research. The samples used in this research were acrylic resin with the addition of nano chitosan and acrylic resin without the addition of 28 acrylic resin. The measurement of this transversal strength usually used Torsee’s Electronic System Universal Testing Machine. The data analysis used One Way Anova Test.Research Result: The average of 0% concentration, which was 55,715 with deviation standard of 4.150. Meanwhile, the average of 0,13% concentration was 63,097 with deviation standard of 14.080. The average of 0,26% concentration was 63.767 with deviation standard of 3.414. The average of 0,40% concentration was 59.107 with deviation standard of 3.111. The result of One Way Anova obtained F value of 0,951 with significant level of 0.447. The result was considered significant if P value was lower than 0,05 (p<0,05), so that it could be stated that the hypothesis was rejected which meaned that there was no effect of chitosan addition given in acrylic resin. Conclusion: There was no significant effect in the addition of nano chitosan with the determined concentration in acrylic resin heat cure to transversal strength.
