      Abstract
      Deandels Kulon Progo km 3-5 road is one segments of primary collector road that connect D.I.Yogyakarta Province and Central Java Province with a high mobility. Because of the high frequent accidents in this road, its necessary to analyz the causes of traffic accidents. Road safety audit needs to be conducted to identify the high risk situations or potential accidents. Based on the background and problems above, the objective of this research are : to identify the characteristics of the accidents, to evaluate potential problems on the roads that have operated on the safety road, to analyze visibility and analyze visibility prepares, to recommendations for improvement. The characterictics of traffic accidents and the highest number of casualities who suffered minor in 233 people. The highest factors of accidents are human factors, its 187 incidents. Based on the case proceedings, the most high frequent incidents is accidents without movement of Two Vehicles type, its 49 incidents. The most types of vehicles that involved in the accidents are motorcycle, its 96 incidents. Basedon the gender classification, the number of men was involved 173 people. The stopping sight distance on this road is not safe as the spot speed (existing) of the stopping sight distance 54,92 m which is 47,98 m smaller than the planned stopping sight distance, i.e. 84,65 m. In addition, the passing sight distance is also not safe as the spot speed (existing) of the passing sight distance is 239,58 m which is 216,03 m smaller than the planned passing sight distance, i.e. 342,737 m.
